Children and youth participation in urban planning — Are we there yet?
“The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was transposed into Swedish law in 2020.
The implementation of the law (2018:1197) on the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child brings about adult’s obligations to strengthen children and youth’s rights, and to incorporate a rights-based approach in all public activities.
Children and youth have the right to express their views in all matters that concern them and to have their views given due weight.”
This article is written by Emma Norss, who undertook her thesis research in 2020-2021 as part to the Working Package 2 of the Planning with Youth research project. She had the opportunity to explore the involvement of children and youth in urban planning in the cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg.
