Second online think tank – report

On 28 June 2022, the second online Think Tank event of the I4S projekt was organised by Oltalom Charity Society and RCISD. The workshop was attented by researchers from six countries: Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. During the lively four-hour discussion, the participants shared their country´s experiences on data provision within the context of social inequalities.

Data sources related to educational inequalities differ from country to country (census, official research, international surveys), as well as restrictions on data collection and data management. Western European researchers are globaly satisfied with the data provision of their countries, and they also use the international data. All participants consider European-level data harmonisation necessary and useful.

According to the British participant, the socio-economic status of students in their country is the root cause of the educational inequalities regardless of ethnicity, while in Northen Europe the researchers found a close connection between immigrant background, socio-economic status and school inequalities.

We are grateful to our Europen colleagues for participating in this fruitful discussion. The next think tank workshop of the I4S projekt will be organised on 5 July 2022 by our Bulgarian partner, C.E.G.A. Foundation.
